The Station

Upwey Station serves Upwey, Broadwey, and Littlemoor, northern suburbs of Weymouth.

The station is on both the Weymouth to Waterloo and the Heart of Wessex Lines.

The station has level access to Platform 1 towards Dorchester and Bristol. Access to Platform 2 towards Weymouth is by the footbridge

The Surrounding Area

Situated near the source of the River Wey (England’s shortest river), Upwey village has now become a pleasant suburb of Weymouth, with a great village store and the Royal Standard Inn, a must for real ale connoisseurs, with ales from its own micro-brewery amongst its superb range. This is a good starting point for walks, up to the South Dorset Downs with their magnificent views over the Jurassic coast and the South Dorset Ridgeway, which is one of the most important prehistoric landscapes in Europe.

The Lorton Meadows wildlife centre is a fifteen-minute level and pleasant walk away from Upwey station, a wonderful nature reserve protected by the Dorset Wildlife Trust. Upwey Wishing Well, a little less than 2 miles’ walk from the station, is set in a little wooded valley with the high bare downs above. This is at the source of the River Wey and has been visited by tourists since they began coming to Weymouth in the late 18th century. It once even had its own station halt! Today there are mature water gardens and the Wishing Well Tea Rooms (T: 01305 814470)
