Bruton

The Station

Bruton Station is a little distance from the town centre. The centre can be reached by way of a footpath from the Northern end of Platform 1.

The station is unmanned. It has level access from the station approach but access to Platform 2 is only by way of the footbridge.

The station is on the main Taunton to Reading line so there are frequent trains which do not stop and pass through quickly.

The Surrounding Area

The historic market town of Bruton is a compact architectural gem spanning six centuries, with narrow alleyways or ‘Bartons’ linking the town with the River Brue.

Lovely historic features include the medieval Packhorse Bridge, the beautiful St Mary’s Church, Sexey’s Hospital and the Dovecote, and there is an excellent small museum. Together with a great selection of places to eat, good independent shops for unusual gifts, antiques, and vintage collectibles, plus a thriving arts culture, Bruton is one of the treasures of the Heart of Wessex Line and a uniquely rewarding destination for a day out.

The Mill on the Brue Activity Centre runs exciting outdoor activities for groups of all kinds, and Gants Mill has been voted one of the top 50 places for weddings in the UK.

Hauser & Wirth

Hauser & Wirth is a pioneering world class gallery based in Zurich, London and New York ….and in Bruton. It is only a 5 minute walk from the station, under the railway bridge and then by way of a footpath created jointly by the owners and Bruton Town Council.

It contains a multi-purpose arts centre in a beautiful setting at Durslade Farm. The landscapes were created by Piet Oudolf. There is a working farm, with livestock born and bred there amongst the delicious sources of local produce for the Roth Bar & Grill.

Freshly roasted coffee!

Here’s something you wouldn’t expect to find in a small rural town – coffee freshly roasted every day, just a few steps from the station. Bean Shot Coffee, (voted the best coffee roaster in the UK in 2015) available in franchises across the country, is next door to the Dovecote Gallery, and close to the Godminster farm outlet shop selling their delicious locally made cheeses

Bruton Museum

This is a fascinating small museum, in the High Street, full of wonderful treasures relating aspects of Bruton’s colourful history. Not to be missed
