Jon took over the role of Chair of the CRP in November 2025.

Having worked in the market research industry for 30 plus years, including running his own research business for 14 years, Jon joined GWR in 2014.

Jon’s first role was as a Project Manager in the major possessions team as the Great Western Electrification programme moved westwards. Projects included Swindon to Kemble re-instatement of double track, Box Tunnel track lowering and Bathampton junction renewal, plus Hinksey (Oxford) flood prevention and Bath Spa platform widening.

In 2017 Jon moved into the Operations and Performance Team, initially as Regional Performance Manager for High Speed Services, then RPM for Central Region and finally RPM for the East Region.

All of these roles allowed Jon to build strong relationships with a wide variety of colleagues across GWR, SWR, XC, NR Western and Wessex.

Since retiring in July 2024, Jon has retained involvement in the rail industry as Secretary of the South West and Wales Area Council of CIRO (Chartered Institute of Railway Operations), which seeks to promote operational professional development of railway staff.

Current objectives include achieving accreditation to CRN (Community Rail Network), which enhances the integrity of the CRP and opens up additional funding opportunities; building relationships with local authorities to identify opportunities for development; promoting the options that travelling on the route and to the fantastic destinations offer; and generating greater engagement with community groups and schools to achieve more usage of the rail service.
